The deep dig, Faido and Sedrun (CH), 2008

A snowstorm, Oberalp Pass

While there is a snowstorm in the mountains and the temperature falls below zero degree, they work two thousand meters below the surface, in twenty-five degree heat. They work in sweat and have to drink eight liters of water per day. Each day, they spend seven hours in dark and dust, and see no sun. They drill a big cavity in the Alps...

In 21 Nov 2008, I took part in a visit to two construction sites of the Gotthard Base Tunnel. Around 2018, the tunnel will become the longest railway tunnel in the world with the length of 57 km. The pictures were taken in two construction sites below Faido and Sedrun.

Val Ferret (CH), 21 February 2009

A few days after an abundant snow fall, we went to explore Val Ferret in wintertime and to plunge into powder. 8 hrs of the exhausting climbing, 2 reached peaks, 2 crazy downhills and 1 ski running away from the last reached summit. This is a brief summary of an extraordinary day of ski-touring in the neighborhood of the Gd St-Bernard. The following images report a half of the day because the camera operator was half-dead after the first climb. As regards the ski which amused itself by running away, it was found 300m below the summit of La Dotse by the Incredibles from Facesud.

Pointe de Bellevue, 2 January, 2009

Pointe de Bellevue (2041m) offers an outstanding view of the Dents du Midi, the east coast of the Geneva Lake and the beginning of the Rhône valley (no pictures this time). During winter, it's an easy ski-hike and a relaxing descent in powder...
